The Oakleigh School and Early Years Centre Parent Staff Association (PSA) is an organisation made up of parents and staff. Its role is to encourage closer links between home and school. PSAs are best known for their fundraising work, but they have a useful social function too. Fundraising events provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together.

All parents/carers of children at Oakleigh School and Acorn Early Years Centre as well as all staff are automatically members of the PSA.

Raising money is a really important role of the PSA and this is done throughout the year in a variety of ways. The school holds 3 or 4 events each year. In the Autumn Term we have an Autumn Fun Party for all children and their families at Oakleigh and Acorn, there are games and activities for children and their siblings to join in as well as food for all to enjoy. In December we set up a Fathers Christmas Grotto at the school for children to visit Santa, have their photos taken with him and receive a present. Most years we hold a Pamper Evening in the Spring Term for adults to come and enjoy pampering treats, and in the Summer Term we hold our Summer Fayre, again inviting all pupils and their families, past and present, to come and participate in the fun and enjoy refreshments and entertainment. Our final event of the year is a Grand Raffle. We also apply to specific charities for grants and donations if we can. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas.

The PSA committee decide how to spend PSA funds based on the school needs or specific requests. Funds raised by the PSA are intended to provide 'extras' not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting. We have raised money for technology equipment for the school, such as; iPads, play equipment for the playground,  the running costs of the school minibus, and financially supporting events for the families in the holidays, and also pay for theatre companies to appear at the school.

The PSA have an Annual General Meeting at which a committee is elected to run the PSA – consisting of a chair, a treasurer, a secretary and ordinary committee members. PSA committees usually meet once a term and all parents and carers are invited.

We are also always looking for new people to come to our meetings or join the committee, as new fundraising ideas are always welcome as well as new people to share them with. If you would like to know more about the PSA or how you can get involved please speak to Bijal Jiwan the school secretary.
